Product Compliance Europe (PCE)

Overview

Product Compliance Europe's (PCE) primary activity is to act as a legal representative to Sony Corporation for matters relating to EU directives, national laws, regulations and standards in the fields of:

(a) product safety
(b) electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)
(c) health impacts from electromagnetic fields (EMF)
(d) radio & telecommunication; and
(e) consumer protection related labelling requirements

This means not only ensuring that all Sony products and packaging are designed to continuously comply with the legal requirements in the above fields, but also acting on behalf of Sony Corporation in related activities such as standardisation and representing Sony at regulatory meetings, interacting with national authorities, issuing Declarations of Conformity documents and providing technical laboratory services.

Standardisation Activities

PCE is proud to host a standardisation team that successfully furthers Sony's leading role and influence within various standardisation bodies, including the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). Through these organisations, PCE is able to strengthen the commitment of Sony to delivering quality products and to reduce, for the benefit of our customers the burdens resulting from differing national technical requirements.

Interaction with National Authorities

PCE through its European network of representatives regularly interacts with national authorities to ensure that Sony products are compliant, and that national authorities have access to the materials necessary to satisfy themselves as to Sony compliance.

Issuing Declarations of Conformity

PCE issues Sony declarations of conformity (DOC). This declaration is necessary in order to affix the mandatory ce mark mark, a mark required for most Sony products.

In addition to overseeing this declaration process, PCE also manages an external website where product DOCs can be downloaded by consumers, distributers and national authorities. For more information, see: http://www.compliance.sony.de

Technical Laboratory Services

To ensure that Sony products are compliant, PCE is also equipped with a sophisticated laboratory. This laboratory is used to test products for their EMC and EMF characteristics. PCE's technical team also provides worldwide support for Sony Group companies and guidance for developing new technical solutions.
